In the summer of 2015, we traveled to Lithuania and Belarus to visit villages where our grandparents lived before they emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900s.
We visited memorials honoring the millions who died in the Holocaust. In Rubezhevichi, Belarus, we met Roma and Tadeusz Sobolevski, a couple who are dedicated to preserving the memory of Jewish life.
In the area of Belarus where three of our grandparents lived, a house was donated to the Sobolevskis to create the Rubezhevichi Museum of Rural Jewish Life, in order to illustrate Jewish life in the region before World War II.
